Our next production will be GREEK, Mark-Anthony Turnage's brilliant and provocative opera that exploded onto the stage in 1988.

Based on the play by fellow Londoner, Steven Berkoff, Greek catapults us into the seedy, boozy East End world of Eddy and his family. Stuck in a familiar rut, Eddy longs for more. When his Dad tells him that a fortune teller once predicted that he would kill his father and marry his mother, Eddy decides he's had enough and leaves home and finds love in the unlikely form of the wife of a man he kicks to death. Little does he know that ten years' later, he will discover his true identity and the shit will hit the fan …

Swinging from demotic energy to soulful intensity, Turnage's jazz-influenced score vividly conveys the overt theatricality of the larger than life characters that surround Eddy and throw into sharp relief the deeply felt human tragedy that is dealt to him through no fault of his own.

Greek is a contemporary classic – a work that will move audiences to tears and back again, as they share with everyone on stage a tale of searing emotion and brazen vitality.
