About Music Theatre Wales

From our home in Cardiff, Music Theatre Wales creates the most exciting new opera in Britain today. We are dedicated to performing groundbreaking and stimulating productions, presenting works that have rarely or never been performed in the UK before as well as commissioning new works from outstanding composers and writers.

We believe opera is a living, breathing art. Over the last 23 years, we have worked with a veritable who’s who line-up of eminent composers including Harrison Birtwistle, Peter Maxwell Davies, Michael Berkeley, Philip Glass and Michael Nyman. We have also nurtured the talents of a new generation of composers commissioning works from Lynne Plowman, Huw Watkins, Nigel Osborne and Param Vir.

Whether performing in the heart of rural Wales or the Peak District, in Edinburgh or London, we unlock in our audiences a hunger for new work they didn’t know they had.
