Selection of repertoire lies at the heart of Music Theatre Wales. The company was founded in 1988 by the artistic directors Michael McCarthy and Michael Rafferty, and continues to thrive on their creative collaboration. Their widely recognised ability to present often complex and challenging new work in an imaginative, exciting and highly accessible way remains the driving force behind MTW and the key to the company’s success. The fact that this collaboration has lasted for so long demonstrates the absolute dedication of the company to the works selected for performance (as opposed to the expression of individual ideas) and to the desire to share them with as diverse an audience as possible. Works are chosen by artistic merit and then balanced against other works currently touring or in commission.
